antp ![]() | Then we could list it as origin = Argentina, but to justify my previous choice I must say that early Dacia (those that were nearly identical to R12) could be listed as origin = France, for me ![]() |

leolito ![]() | Uhm ... similarly to here vehicle.php?id=63751 we should consider origin of this vehicle. Usually Argentinean F-100s had Falcon engine/transmission (221 engine if I recall right), which I believe it was dropped from US models after the 4th gen ... |

| Renault 12 Break [X17] Historias mínimas (2002) |
leolito ![]() | I disagree ... a lot! ![]() Dacias are considered 'Romanian' cars and they are also R12's .... the Argentinean cars are not CKDs, they are "the real thing". Some story: When Renault studied the possibility to build the R12 in Brazil and Argentina, they started to negotiate with Willys (after Ford) in Brazil, this deal resulting in the 'Ford Corcel', which was much less Renault and much more Ford than the French expected (much US-styled) and pretty much died on its own. Dealings between Renault and Kaiser (through its local branch IKA = Industrias Kaiser Argentina) were more successful, echoing the excellent results achieved previously by IKA with the Dauphine, the Gordini, the R4 (still in production at the time) and the R6. So it was that the first Argentinean-built R12 started assembly in the IKA-Renault plant of Cordoba on 1970, and it was officially presented for commerce on May 1971. Production would last until 1994, including other a range of engines (1400 e 1600 and a diesel which displacement I cannot remember) and trim never seen on its european counterparts (including AC and leather seats! ).Many people believe Renault Argentina (formerly CIADEA after IKA abandoned its operations in Argentina) should not have stopped production, but unfortunately the 12 was too old to compete with more recent imports, though still a top-saler at the moment of its demise. Over these 23 years of production 444,045 units were built, making it one of the most successful Argentinean cars ever. Nine times it was acclaimed as the year top-seller, five of these times it was consecutive ;), peaking at 42,921 in 1980, and complete vehicles were also exported to Chile and Uruguay y Angola. A true success. Imho, the Argentinean-R12 is as French as a Dacia is ... you guys choose. (sorry for the long post ... I've learned to drive in my granpap 1980's R12 TL ... I much miss him ... and the car ) -- Last edit: 2006-11-10 09:25:28 |

| 1979 Ford F-100 Historias mínimas (2002) |
leolito ![]() | In Argentina it was called F-100 (and built there). The F-150 applied only to the generation that came after (the one with rectangular headlights flushed with the hood). |

leolito ![]() | No. Renault 12 (and 18) station wagons were called "Break'. 'Rural' is the translation, but it was not applied commercially (for Renaults). Should this be labeled as an Argentinian origin? |
