A friend has met an Egyptian car-exporter in Hamburg a time ago, who told him that when he started his business in the early 70ies, he preferred the VW Typ 4, the Borgward Isabella and *cough* the K 70. Probably because used Benzes were more expensive. They were mainly exported to the Near East, Opel and Ford to Turkey and Peugeot to the francophone countries in Northern Africa. Interesting. Worth to say they have original Fiats of different types and last time we had perhaps an original Fiat 128 visible in Egypt (some Italian documentary).
Also interestign how looked there import of the second hand cars...
