imported616 USit is a 1964 Pontiac GTO its my fathers car, he had had seen an ad in the newspaper when the movie was being made that they needed classic cars from the specific time period so he went down to the filming with his car!

1968 SAAB Sonett V4 [97]
The Ice Storm (1997)
Bruce Turk USOn the Sonett II V4 the side marker lights were added for model year 69, so the car is not a 68.

>>>Only 28 prototype example were made in 1966. Only 230 2 cycle version were made in >>>1967 before introducing the V4 version in 1968.

This is accurate except for the V4 version being introduced in 68. The last 70 1967's were V-4 powered and had the same wooden dashboard as the two-stroke. They have a *combination* of two-stroke and later V-4 body and interior parts. I have seen only 3 of these.

rjluna2 USDAF555 is correct. When US government got in the wind of the pollution control, they started mandatory pollution control in 1968. They continue to tighten the pollution control until late 1970's. Perhap they have phased out the Monte Carlo 850 in 1968 in favor more powerful V4 engine and beside they reduced the engine displacement to 816 cc to bypass the pollution control. In this case, this car is made for USA as I stated above due to federally mandate backup light.

1967 SAAB Sedan [96]
The Ice Storm (1997)
DAF555 SEThis one proves to complicated to determine precisely when looking at it again.

Starting with the colour it can be 1965-67.

The body has got the small windows, also available as 1965-67 models and in the US as budget version called Shrike also in 1968 with an engine downsized below 50 cubic inches to be able to pass the limit for emission control. Shrike was available 1967-68 in the US.

Problem with this car is that it has been stripped of it´s trim. Even the cheapest Shrike had trim on the fenders, as did the 1966 SAAB Special a version with the Monte Carlo engine and less trim and equipment sold only in the US and Switzerland. The Monte Carlo 850 and regular US SAAB V4 Sedan had the double chrome stripes over the doors. If the rear side wndows of the Shrike model were fixed or possible to open I don´t know, it could have been available as option.

So after what I can find this one could be:

1965 SAAB Sedan or Monte Carlo 850
1966 SAAB Sedan, Special or Monte Carlo 850
1967 SAAB Sedan, Shrike, (Monte Carlo 850, not sure if they sold in the US as 67 models) or V4 Sedan

All Monte Carlo 850 should have the backup lights and when the V4 came it was given the same equipment/trim as the Monte Carlo 850 for the US-market.
But if it was mandatory for 1967, and I have no reason to doubt that, they would have been on all the others to which makes it more probable that the car here is in fact a 1967 since sales inceased a lot with the V4 engine.

My guess is that it´s a V4 Sedan but it´s not possible to be sure so let´s keep it as it is now, 1967 SAAB Sedan [96]

1968 SAAB Sonett V4 [97]
The Ice Storm (1997)
DAF555 SEThat seems correct, the side markers make it a 68 V4. And looking carefully on this blurred capture you might at least sense the bulge on the hood as well.
About the numbers made I don´t know for sure, I have a good reference book covering SAAB models up to 1976 and it states that 24 prototypes were built 1966. The production commenced late that year so my guess is that the last 4 belong to the series production of the cars, 1967 modelyear.
For 1967 calender year the total production of Sonett stop at 455 units, my source does not separate either models or modelyear so this sum would contain both 2-stroke cars and V4:s of 1967 and some 1968 V4.
2-stroke cars are indeed rare but I think most of the production went to the US as was intended.

1968 SAAB Sonett V4 [97]
The Ice Storm (1997)
rjluna2 USI think it is 1968 Saab Sonett V4 due it has federally mandate side marker. The 2 cycle version are extremely rare and virtually unknown. Only 28 prototype example were made in 1966. Only 230 2 cycle version were made in 1967 before introducing the V4 version in 1968. I have a copy of poster of all SAAB vehicles with chassis number listing up to 1980. Perhaps DAF555 may know better.
