It could just as easily be a bus body mounted on an HC-600 chassis. Sometimes bus builders would plant bodies on heavier trucks.

I agree, I can't find anything on a bus chassis for that series.

1949-59 HC-Series models were 5x0 to 9x0 models. As almost all share the same wheelbases, how can the 4½-ton payload of a 600 chassis be seen from that picture? Wouldn't it be more accurate to just say

⇒ 1949 GMC HC-Series?
