In the "auto-moto" TV show on French channel TF1 this morning, there was an interview of the guy who was doing stunts for this movie: they said that for these scenes the streets were not closed, and this crash was not planned: the Torino was a normal traffic car ![]() |

This looks like the same car that Popeye was trying to flag down before he managed to get the LeMans...? |

Shouldn't think so. It was actually just some guy on his way to work, who wound up in the movie. Plus that was a different coloured Fairlane, which also has a very different front end. They paid for the repairs. -- Last edit: 2013-03-07 01:22:34 |

The streets weren't closed, and a random guy on his way to work was hit. The production company paid for the repairs. |

This was filmed in my neighborhood. The streets were not closed while this was being filmed! The Chevy on the right is a 69 Impala! |

The tale of this being an ordinary drover on his way to work is incorrect, at least that I've heard. Allegedly, the accident occurred because a stunt driver overshot his mark and caused the accident. Balto is also correct as this Ford sedan is actually one of the cars Popeye Doyle is shown attempting to flag down.![]() ![]() |

You mean the Lemans? ;-) Remember that the three years old already, and how many 10,000s of thousands produced? Personally, I never liked these, although that's all a matter of personal taste. Regardless, that crash was unintentional. As the previous post corrects the urban myth that this was a NY commuter who accidentally pulled into the scene. This accident was an accident in that it was a stunt driver who missed his mark, and there was unintentional contact. That being said, I guess it is possible that it WAS intentional, but someone involved in that scene would need to corroborate either scenario. Regardless, I am convinced this was a car used as part of the production company by virtue of the fact that a white '68 with dark top is one of the vehicles that passes Popeye as he attempts to flag down and commandeer a car before blocking the Lemans driver and pulling him out. |
