A bit off topic question to the British around here: do you have any of these letter-boxes around you, which still have a "GR" on the front? Once, I think in 2001, I've seen one, which was still in use (maybe in Linlithgow/Scotland). All others had an "ER"... |

Deluxe. @ingo: Yes - postboxes have different initials depending who was king/queen when they were first installed, and they're not replaced just because the monarch changes. Your Linlithgow example shows another quirk as English and Welsh boxes have EIIR for the current queen - Elizabeth 2nd. When Elizabeth 1st was queen, Scotland was separate, so the current queen is Scotland's 1st Elizabeth and ER used on Scottish boxes. |
