Z71 is what GM calls an RPO <===that was brill, huh? RPO stands for "Regular Production Option" and there are about a gadzillion. Sometimes these RPOs make it actually onto the car as the model designation, such as the Camaro Z28, Corvette ZR1, or, like here, Z71. Other ones that pop into mind are Z11, Z16 and remember the Citation X11? Most of the times however, they are completely unkown to the owner. The older GM cars had a sheet glued to the inside of the trunk lid that listed all RPOs the car was equipped with. You sometimes needed that info for ordering spare parts.

Not sure which year was the first for the Z71 but I'm guessing this is a 90-91 model, not newer because they changed the rims in 92

This movie was filmed in 1989, so it's probably an 89. I believe there was also a quick head on shot of this truck and it had the mini-quad sealed beam headlights instead of the 1990-up composite headlamps.

I think 1989 was the first year for the Z71 decals...that package back then consisted of skid plates, heavy duty Bilstein shocks, G80 locking differential (I think), 265/75R16 all terrain tires, exterior identification (the decals) and possibly a couple more items.

Nice truck! Those things run forever I've seen them with over 300,000 miles on the original engines, untouched! Mine has 216,000 right now on the original engine.

In the movie, the tow truck is seen evading this GMC Sierra twice! Here's the second time:

Can anybody confirm the model year as 1989? Or can it be a 1988 model as well? For sure it's only one of these two model years due to the split headlights.

Actually the second shot is from inside the Oldsmobile with Murtaugh and Leo dodging the truck.
