They built a total of 12,705 of all types of Polaras vs 44,496 of all types of Custom 880's. If basing one's choice on numbers, I would go with the 880... |

Well, if we can't identify it, we normally keep it as "unknown" or just leave the model section blank. |

Another solution is picking the most common/probably name and adding a "(by default)" mention that indicates that it was chosen by default among several possibilities. |

I personally don't like the idea of a "default" identification. If we don't know, we shouldn't say. A note in the text can mention the competing theories. For the record on the subject car, however, I feel this IS a Polara because it appears to be a 4-window sedan. All the illustrations I have seen of Custom 880 4-door sedans show the 6-window configuration. Dissents? |

That's what the "by default" means, that we don't know It is still better than not having any model name, I think. We could also list it as Polara if it is more probable. |

Polara was the top selling full-size Dodge series for 1965, "A total of some 75,100 Polara passenger cars were built during model year 1965", The Standard Catalog of American Cars 1946-1975. Same source, "A total of some 23,700 Custom 880 passenger cars were built during model year 1965." I was aware of the chrome strip issue also but couldn't tell if I was seeing one or just a side crease. The side windows factor clinches it, however. |
