This is a 1976-1978 Vauxhall VX1800 or VX2300. The single square head lights with narrow blinkers shows that it is made after the 1976 face lift. I don't know if there is any way to tell a VX1800 from a VX2300. I'm not sure if the location of the badge on the left side of the grill is significant. I have seen pictures of these cars with the badge in this position and in the middle of the grill. edit: Most of the pictures I have seen with the badge in the middle are more recent pictures. The only brochure pictures I have seen with the badge in the middle is of the VX2300 GLS. It is possible that the owners moved the badge to make their cars look like the more expensive GLS model, or that they preferred the more symmetrical look. -- Last edit: 2016-06-07 13:36:23 |

VX1800 or VX2300 differed in rear badges on the boot only I believe (even the tyre size was unchanged between engine sizes unlike the Magnum 2300 and 1800). Interior had very minor equipment differences between the two models. When the models were introduced, the small griffen badge on the VX1800 and VX2300 was on the left side on the grille, but a slightly larger centred badge on the VX2300 GLS. I am not aware of it changing later on. |

I've got no info on any visible differences between 1800 and normal 2300. Both had griffin badge in left of grille, and match this picture. Some had vinyl roof, but was only optional. 2300 GLS was different - 4 square headlights, bigger egg-crate grille mesh, badge in grille centre, plus a lot more shiny trim and standard vinyl roof. It was basically a slightly freshened Ventora, but without the 3.3 engine. |
