Do I see the garnish molding behind the front wheel that would indicate an 8-cylinder model? |

Choices are Futuramic 76 - Futuramic 88 - Futuramic 98 De Luxe convertible coupe |

Something that I'd noticed in the brochure before but never imagined was actually significant, but seems to be borne out by every real example I can find - The 98 has an extra something below the door handle (Keyhole? Push button?) that the 76 and 88 do not. Going by that, this car is a 98. |

I did an image search too Cougar, and saw the same thing. It actually looks like the 98 has a different style door handle than the 88 and 76 do. I think the latter two have the lock integrated with the handle push button while the 98 has the lock located below the handle, which appears to be of the old twist type. Any period Olds expert out there who can confirm? -- Last edit: 2016-09-25 02:57:33 |

It is a 1949 98 futuramic.. The driver door lock does not work as well as the passenger side so when iv'e to lock it up i go in and out thru the passenger side..I work on this car for it's owner. It looks even nicer with the roof up.He's spent a bundle on the roof. The paint is flawles. It shouldn't really be used in movies it's too nice a car. This year iv'e taken to 4 movie sets here for a remake of the Billie Holiday story. My guess is with the tech they have now they'll make it look like a Pontiac in the street scenes it was in and on Olds in the hotel scenes. It did one long shot drive by When i showed up on set the car wranglers were saying this is too nice for a movie set. Driving it can get nerve racking in that you often look over to see the car next to is driving and taking pictures of it with his smart phone and swerving at you. It's back in it's building. I can't tell you where that is and it's under two covers while i'm doing work on his 59 Electra. |

It definitely is a '98'. One can also identify the model from the trim in the rocker area. (Although it is a bit covered by the splashing water.) The chrome is just a straight line on non-98 cars. And this one is NOT straight, so the car is a '98'. -- Last edit: 2020-03-02 14:06:22 |
