It looks like that ("Brilliant green" - code 374, is the colour) but the conditions are much better. Possibly restored but difficult in my opinion. I don't believe such Fiats are of any interest in the USA. I will look the photo I took at the time in San Francisco to have the oppotyunity to compare the plates.

I guess only few units were imported there, and maybe they had some bad reviews from owners probably because of the low imports which gives also a lack of parts. So that nobody will have the balls to own one and unfortunately :( many cars has been underestimated through history just because of problems like these. In my opinion the most common Fiat sedan ever made was the 131, apparently that car has known many success in everywhere it was commercialized.

No, Raji, the most commn ones were the sporty versions of the 850s and 124s (I mean coupé and Spider). About the 850 Spider most than 90% of the production went to the USA.
The 850 sedan was the rarest.
They had become very rare in the late 90's when I first went there. Visiting junk yards in ten years I met 9 spiders (convertible) and among them four in junk yards. two stored and no more runnign and three in normal use. I didn't meet any coupé but was luchy to find a white sedan in Hollywood.

Very sad, it's clearly that these cars were ignored out there :( , At least for my country the most common old Fiat is the 131, my cousin had a rusty tough one, he used to bought it already in a bad condition but has never let him down.
Coupé and Spider models in Algeria are rare, but I can assure you that they have a lot of fans and they will be never ignored!

When I went in the Middle East some years ago I saw many 131s, 127s, a few 124s (plus Autobianchi A112s, and the funny point was that Y10s had disappeared and A112s not yet) in bad conditions but still in service !!!

the only Fiat model i ever seen ( other than 500 , old and new, and the later derivatives ) is the X 1/9

They were very unreliable, especially compared to cheaper Japanese cars that became popular in the 1970s and 80s. After Fiat left the market in 1982, the parts dried up, the cars went to the junkyards. They weren't worth saving. The only ones saved were the convertibles and X1/9s. Most of the sedans seen now were imported years later as collector's cars.

Yes, I know the joke about the second meaning of F.I.A.T. in USA: "Fix it again, Tony!". An elderly gentleman in a restaurant at the Cliff in San Francisco, while we had to wait to be seated, told me about his horrible experience with a 1960 Fiat. I didn't even recall which was the model name but by the description it probably was a Fiat 1100, and the funny point is that the 1100 is remembered in Italy as one of the best Fiat about quality.

Due your discussion about Fiat I made right now a new discovery! The old-established (since 1958) Fiat-dealer in my village has now (since some days or weeks, not longer) an own homepage! :wow:

Due the new signs on the roof I've noticed, that they gave up Lancia. For a short time, since the overtaking by Chrysler they offered a few Lancia-badged Chryslers, but soon the Lancia-signs were removed.
Only the signs are new, but garage, showroom and parts-stock are still oldfashioned. They still have boards with old paper-part-lists - and when the door to the parts-stock is open, you see a panel with Fiat 132-gaskets :D

When I visited Syria in 1991 there were plenty of old 1100s, 1800s. 124s and 600s. The other looked to me lesser and I forgot the 131s (I remember few 132s).

Syria Loked to me a Paradise because one third of the runnig cars were 1964 or older and of every car make of the era (From Austin and Borgward to Studebaker and Wolseley). Most of the newer cars were apparently bought by the Government in stock. For instance every Opel Ascona B was in "Berlina" trin in not metallic colour but with the vinyl top. There were many 1979-81 Mazda 929 and other Japs.

Uuhh, that's a dangerous sentence. When I was a schoolboy, I've told this to a boy in the neighbourhood, whose father owned a brand new Ascona B. But he misunderstood it ("Popel" means also "snot"), so his mother ringed totally upset at our door and complained, that Opel-drivers are clean people, who didn't dig in the nose.
My mother still remembers, how she had to be strong, not to get the laughing fit until the had closed the door... :lol:
