If this gets an ID, I will be impressed. A test rig to evaluate the durability of road surface treatments. Whatever this is - or was originally (a dead truck??) - it spends what's left of its life whizzing round a circular concrete arena. |

Found... An AEC chassis at the Road Research Laboratory. Link to "archive.commercialmotor.com" "This apparatus has been constructed primarily for the study of surface conditions, such as surface dressing, skidding and impact. It consists of a standard A.E.C. short-wheelbase chassis with the engine replaced by an electric motor. This is a prewar civillian type Matador chassis, no you cant tell from the photo but it is shown in an AEC Southall Gazette of the period. Nick, AEC Society archivist. |
