EE 3654 = 1922 (I think) Grimsby plate, so probably a fish lorry. |

I wouldn't fancy any fish that had been transported from Grimsby to London at 12mph. Most perishable goods came by train in those days, specials were run for milk and fish that ran as fast as the passenger trains. Like 20s American lorries, the British makes of that era were very difficult to separate. |

The railways had a near monopoly on long distance freight until the 1930s. It would either be a one-off haulage job or the truck was moved south permanently. I agree about trying to identify lorries and some vans from the 1920s - almost impossible and many more uncommon makes that eventually failed. -- Last edit: 2016-01-27 14:22:47 |
