Open top R14 ... I see that you're quite disappointed ingo :D

Poire= peer in english , but also pejorative meaning = mug.
Fuego refers to the worst advertising/publicity campaign ever made (by Publicis company) , which made and explicit comparison between the Renault 14 shape and the fruit without having cared a single slight second of some kind of "bad" connotation relative to the word "Poire" in french ...
"une bonne poire" is quite pejorative, meaning someone naive or idiot, also used as "sobriquet" (nickname) for the king "Roi des Français" Louis-Philippe 1er in 1st half of the 19th century.

Anyway, the R14 was not so bad car and had a very modern shape for its era ... ;)

With the black-grey "dégradé" band on the wing, and these rims ==> a TS

Ah, thanks for the infos - in German we had annother use for the term "Birne" (= poire, peer), too - it was the nickname for the chancellor Helmut Kohl. :D

Sixcyl, thanks for explaning, you're right. I never realised the other meaning of "poire", I knew just the fruit.
Did n't the Museum of modern arts in Paris, Centre Georges Pompidou, showed a R14 carrosserie as an art object sometime?

Was this roof called Découvrable in France too?

Yes, the 14 was launched as same time as the Centre Georges Pompidou was openned in 1976. But I do not remember who did this sculpture/painting on the car for this exposition, and I can't find any picture of it :/

I don't know if Découvrable was really a specific name for it? It was rather as an option.
