My first thought was that one, but I guess that I compared a wrong model-year on Google Images as the one that I found looked too different :(

It's the ventilation air intake cover trim piece which has a chromed surround : http://www.volvo1800pictures.com/engine/ES72_105_id_286_5.jpg

BTW - A VERY cool car in my opinion... :D But I do not like those wheels.

I don't like them either and think they are aftermarket. I don't remember any 1800 with those wheels.

These cars will last forever. Some guy in NY, USA put over 1,000,000 miles on one. My first one (1962) went 248,000 miles without major work before it got wrecked. One weak point on the early (jensen built) ones - they had a water cooled, oil cooler that tended to leak oil into the coolant.
