From ebay page "... the actual car used in “Arthur” (starring Dudley Moore, Liza Minnelli and Sir John Gielgud): a 1956 Silver Wraith touring limousine (LELW92) with coachwork by HJ Mulliner (body #5898, design #7356, tested as RXK4). Originally delivered on July 10,1956 to Mme. AW Frink at the Hôtel Plaza Athénée in Paris, France. Then to the United States and featured in “Arthur”, then sold to a collector who owned it until selling to its present owner in 2004. Has carried its New York license plate of “ARTHUR” since the film and was again licensed in Florida as “ARTHUR”. While it has been maintained, it has not been restored since its film appearance, but was recently refurbished by its present owner to look as clean and original as possible. Has also appeared in the 2004 Winter Park Concours d’Elégance and the 2005 Amelia Island Concours d’Elégance. At the moment the car is registered in Florida." Started at 25,000 euros, sold for 26,050 euros, 3 bids - possibly a bargain for a film and concours example with solid history?? -- Last edit: 2011-07-20 16:18:41 |

That was a low sales price. Not a bright idea to put it on eBay. |

Restoration of such a vehicle can easily cost £50,000, and quite possibly twice that. The purchaser of a car that has been in a museum and “refurbished to look as clean and original as possible” (dsl) is without doubt buying the traditional pig in a poke. It may have appeared in concours competition but what were the judges’ verdicts? |

Here's a Sotheby's auction from 2012 where it was sold for $96,800: Link to "rmsothebys.com" I doubt it was really sold for $26,000 a year before. |
