But there aren't wires |

What do you mean? |

◊ 2007-02-04 00:22 |
its not a trolley bus because it hasnt got wires, hes right yes, thats a normal bus made as a tram |
◊ 2007-02-04 00:24 |
Sorry, I'm not familiar with those kind of buses (with the wires) |
◊ 2007-02-04 00:33 |
Yes, trolley-bus is a bus that works like a trolley, not a bus that looks like a trolley |

So it's just a bus that's been customized to look like a San Francisco cable car. |
◊ 2007-02-04 02:01 |
these are popular in resort areas in the US |

It could be a cable car - they don't use wires or even have an engine. They are moved by an underground cable pulling them along. |

It's a tourist bus made to look like a cable car. Real San Francisco cable cars don't have tyres. Or steering wheels. Link to "en.wikipedia.org" |

Its got dual rear wheels and an exhaust pipe as well, probably built on a motorhome chassis. |

I've ridden one of these buses in Chicago. (it was free, btw) |

You have better eyes than I have gag halfrunt is right. I should have seen the steering wheel. -- Last edit: 2007-02-04 20:09:17 |

On my monitor the wheels are not visible (too dark) but if you change contrast on the picture they appear |
◊ 2007-02-04 20:19 |
I did it and see what you mean. Thanks. I have done that to pics in the past and I generally post the result (or comment on it) so all can see. My monitor is like yours (too dark) I wonder if anyone can see the wheels without changing the brightness and contrast?? |

CRT monitor become darker after few years (mine is now 5 years old). A recent monitor or a TFT monitor with good constrast allows to see these details (I notice that on my TFT monitor at work the dark images look quite less dark, even if colors are not always correct like on the CRT monitor) |

Ive got a 19" flat panel monitor, and the rear wheel rims (bud type) are quite obvious |
◊ 2007-02-04 22:55 |
Looks like I need a new monitor. My current one is a Mitsubishi CRT about 4 years old. It has a super bright mode (for movies, etc) but I can't see the wheels without downloading the pic and changing the brightness and contrast. Perhaps that is why I went through all the unknowns without being able to positively ID anything |

Well, that's the problem of CRT monitors. Though you can probably keep it few years, even if it is darked. A solution can be to cheat with luminosity/contrast/gamma in the advanced display properties of Windows, if you have such options. -- Last edit: 2007-02-04 23:54:07 |

Thanks, I'll give it a try. |

boosted gamma a little and played with bright/contrast it helps - I can now see the wheels. Thanks again for the advice. -- Last edit: 2007-02-05 00:13:43 |

These are the Golden Gate Park shuttle buses. They are built to resemble the cable cars. In order to find out who made them, someone could contact the Golden Gate Park authority. |

Well, I couldn't find that, so I chose MUNI instead. -- Last edit: 2007-03-21 12:30:38 |
