I guess from a soldier?

The kid seems to be wearing a "Scout" satchel.

The kid was German enviro-friendly volunteer, but the car in movie belonged to bad guys and thieves.

Typical, the bad guys always drive US cars in Germany.

I thought the 6.2 Litre engine didn't come out until 1982.

With the Fleetside bed. It seems to be a small C-10: 117.5"/2.98 m wheelbase & 6½ ft /1.98 m bed.

Indeed:

Apparently made from 1982 to 1993.

I just wonder if we should have the engine displacement in the complement. If it's done for this one, shouldn't it be done for other vehicles, when visible or known? Is it really a useful information?
(And is it really useful to emphasize on such a displacement, as this engine dispenses 130 hp only ? ;) )

Whatever that is, I would suggest this is C-Series

→ why I think it's a short C-10: look at the (really small) space between the cab and the rear wheel arch :)

I'm not sure if these diesel engines were sold for the C-10 weight class

IIRC, the minimum weight class for these diesel engine were sold starting at C/K-20 series weight class due to massive amount of torque.

240 lb·ft (325 N·m / ±32.5 m.kg), yet high, is not what can really be called a "massive amount of torque" :D
For the record, the 305 ci / 5.0 l gasoline V8 engine (optional for C-10 models) provides a torque of 235 lb·ft (319 N·m / ±31.9 m.kg). Both engines reach that maximum value at 2000 rpm.

In doubt, just check in brochures?

Now try to forget the 6.2 l engine "detail" and please focus on the wheelbase. Usually you'd be the first one to say that there was no C-20 using the small wheelbase as shown in Weasel184's thumb...
