Looks like the smaller rear window of a Streamliner fastback. Chromed headlight rings indicate a De Luxe. |

You guys are close, but not quite. It was a 1950 Pontiac, but not a Streamliner DeLuxe sedan, but was instead a Silver Streak Sedan Delivery. It's not obvious from this head on view, but the only clue is the small rear window & lack of rear side windows. Do a Google image search for 1950 Pontiac sedan delivery & you'll see. How to I know? Because it was my car and I was sitting in it while this scene was being filmed at Santa Monica Pier in August 1977. I had driven it out from Phoenix to meet a friend, but had to kill some time waiting for the friend to get off work so I drove to Santa Monica Pier & stumbled upon this location shoot. Prior to moving to Phoenix I had lived in Upstate NY & rebuilt this car a after purchasing it for $450. It was a typical East coast rust bucket & had a seized up flathead 6 engine. I dropped a Chevy 283 engine that I rebuilt myself into it with a Hurst stick shifter out of a Camaro & drove it cross country to Phoenix & have been here ever since. I didn't have the money to complete the interior or re-chrome the grill & bumpers & sold it in 1981 for $1,000. If you look close the bumpers were pitted & looked shabby & were painted over with silver paint out of a spray can. I lost track of it after it sold, and I hope someone somewhere made it into a cool street rod that's still on the road & didn't end up going to the crusher. Side view of the actual car taken right before I sold it. ![]() |

Cool story, thanks for sharing! Hope it's alive and well somewhere. It would be a shame to see a rare model destroyed. The others are listed here as Sedan Delivery. |
