That's right, T. You could have found it already listed by checking all cars of this movie (click on 'Running on Empty', just above the pictore): vehicle_81411-Holden-EK-1961.html |

Thanks DynaMike. I'm new to the site so thanks for your response. 1. Images seem to remain in the unidentified area even after they have been identified. In this case by yourself. 2. An extra image of (assumed to be) the same car goes unidentified. Somehow it's concluded that no substitute vehicle was ever used during filming whereas I read that there were at least 2 Plymouth Valiants used in the screening of Duel. Who is to conclude that they were *exactly* the same model unless multiple images appear in the database. 3. An image that contains 2 cars may or may not be repeated at random it seems. The database will not respond to a request for the unnamed car. You have to know which film it's associated with or details of the named car. If it's the only one of it's kind it goes untraceable. |

Hi Antp, Here's another example of what I was saying about the Biscayne on Carnival of Souls. I know EK Holdens very well. How is another person to conclude that the red car in 2 different images of Running on Empty is the same car? The association implies extra info that the database search engine could easily resolve if the these steps were implemented a. The vehicle on the left is (brand a) the vehicle on the right is (brand b) b. As sometimes occurs, there are 2 image entries in the database. One for the vehicle on the left and one for the vehicle on the right. Leaving images in an area accessed by an URL called unidentified seems pretty specific. How does a newcomer conclude that the unidentified is actually identified when the comment field contains no reference to a vehicle in the frame and the only link is to a film reference that contains a second image that might not be conclusively identified? -- Last edit: 2007-12-10 17:32:53 |

That's why when I add myself a picture I try to put a link to the pages of other cars visible. By the way, nothings prevents you from doing the same when you see a page where several cars are seen, and that you recognize one of the other cars of the movie. |

Curious. One guy chides me for identifying a declared unidentified vehicle and the other guy suggests I add an URL to identify the same vehicle. Suggestions: 1. If it's identified, don't name it as being unidentified. 2. Instead of lengthy argument, why not just fix the problem and indisputably label every image. I'm happy to become an administrator and do all the typing if that's the problem. The issue is too important to me to leave it unaddressed. The crosslink thing only works in one direction. There's no provision for working backwards unless you already know the answerto your query which defeats the power and purpose of the search engine. T |

1. What was unidentified? The truck? Maybe it is just that nobody renamed it, some are forgotten sometimes 2. What do you mean by label every image? If you want a description/list of all vehicles of all images, you can do it, comments are made for that. But you can't ask to all people who add images to do the same, as it takes much time and usually many vehicles are submitted as "unknown" (and labeled later with the proper name). I do not see what could be added by an administrator compared to what can be put in comments, to make the links between pages when multiple vehicles are seen. -- Last edit: 2007-12-11 17:50:44 |

Hi Antp, Example: There are 2 cars in one shot, like the Austin truck and the EK Holden above. If you search the database for Austin up comes the truck. If you search the site for Holden, that shot will never appear because it's not listed in the database. If you already know the Holden and Austin are in the same shot then you have no need of the database. I would like to be able to use the database to find every instance of a car and not just the ones I already know about. T -- Last edit: 2007-12-12 09:29:55 |

I really dont comprenhend what's your problem with the database, but trust me you are the first user with that kind of problem. |

But it is listed: vehicle_81411-Holden-EK-1961.html |

Why do you want a further shot of the car when you have a closer one? and besides since only one main picture per car can be added we have thumbnails for that, to show other views of the car, just get used to our rules its the only thing i can say to you, youve been the first one in having such problems so far... |

Hi carchasesfanatic and Gag Halfrunt, I've addressed the issue over and over but for you both I'll address it again because it really is important. 1. I'm the first one to have that kind of problem. Thanks for your comment Carchasesfanatic. This means my efforts are justified and worthwhile. To answer this question I'll cover what I gleaned from the database so far with specific examples. Duel: There were multiple Peterbilts and Plymouths used in this film. That fact is undisputed. Others and myself have provided URLs to prove the fact. If a Peterbilt appears in any scene in Duel, which one was it? There is the theatrical perception that the truck is the Peterbilt and that's where an audience's connection with it is entitled to end. To somebody who owns one of those trucks the matter becomes much deeper at least from the authenticity point of view. One truck has notches etched out of the radiator grill on the driver's side while others do not. I'd like to know specifically which truck that was and which scene. Having only one theatrical shot per Peterbilt defeats that. If a Plymouth appears in any scene in Duel, which one was it? There is the theatrical perception that the car is the Plymouth and that's where an audience's connection with it is entitled to end. To somebody who owns one of those Plymouths the matter becomes much deeper at least from the authenticity point of view. One Plymouth has a big smudge on the driver's door while others do not. I'd like to know specifically which Plymouth that was and which scene. Having only one theatrical shot per Plymouth defeats that. Gag Halfrunt, But it is listed. If you check the images of the Chevrolet Biscayne in Carnival of Souls, the Biscayne badge in front of the driver's door appears and disappears with varying scenes, yet it is expected that for someone searching the database that this is the same car. In the Duel case the reference URLs clearly state that the Plymouth is not the same car. As a result the issue of whether the same Biscayne was used throughout the film arises especially when the production company got the Saltair shots in Utah and the majority of other shots in the film's hometown in another state. WRT: Austin Truck and EK Holden. You are presuming the EK to be the same car. I agree they are the same model, though either car could be an FB with some front end surgery. The EK shot in question will not be provided by the database only a later shot will be. There is the presumption that somehow the 2 shots are related. I've provided the Duel and Carnival of Souls cases to demonstrate that they may not be. To other posters I will not be providing this degree of detail in answer or indeed any answer at all unless you demonstrate that you've been following the entire thread of my arguments which are listed under Running on Empty and Carnival of Souls. -- Last edit: 2007-12-12 13:44:30 |

Ok i think i understand what you mean, so, you say that in one scene a car can appear with mood and in another without so that makes you think it might not be the same car, that's what you say isnt it? well, then i have to say you that although they can be two different cars we wont list them seperately because although they are two different "units" (i dont know if this word is the best to use) it is still the same car and represents the same car in the movie, and besides, that of the dirt you explain is not a reason why there has to be more than one car, it can mean that one scene was filmed later and then in the edition the one with dirt goes first and then the other one. The same happens with damage, i added this Jaguar yesterday vehicle_143339-Jaguar-XJ6-Series-II-1974.html as you can see, it has a crash and gets quite damaged in the front, but later one in the same chase scene the car goes back to its normal shape, so, wehat you mean is that we should submit both damage and undamaged Jaguars? the asnwer is no, it is supposed to be the same car, if in the edition of the movie the car changes without continuity it is not our problem, we will only list it once. I hope you have uderstood me, its more difficult to try and explain something long in another language that is not yours. |

Thanks for you reply Carchasesfanatic. I probably sound picky to some, but it is a cars in the movies type website. I'm really enheartened by the detail that the people who live in the countries where these cars were sold have provided. "it is still the same car and represents the same car in the movie" These are 2 seperate points. One perception is that dramatically they are the same car. The reality is that in fact they are not (Duel) or may not be (Carnival of Souls). It would be great if there was some provision made to provide multiple fields per image to fully qualify the car. I like the Carnival of Souls example where two images of both Chevs on the bridge has been provided, each identifying the relevant car. T |

Exactly, that happens many times, but we are not adding both of them just because they are two diferent ones, in such cases we can clearly recognise they were two different cars we mention it in the thumbnails, another different thing is if they use another complete different model, then we will add that toher model because it is a different car, like it happend to me in this movie: vehicle_81305-Chevrolet-Nova-1976.html <-- this car is used at the begining in a car chase, but all of a sudden in a minor shot it changes to this other car vehicle_81307-Oldsmobile-Cutlass-1983.html that has nothing to do with it, so i added it, but when the catr is still the same, although the used several of them we wont list them but mention it in thumbnails perhaps. |

This works for cars with a role in the movie, as it is the purpose of the site. As said above the Holden was listed with another picture (but still listed). And comments are there for redirecting the visitor in case of multiple cars on a picture. Background cars (i.e. those with only 1 star as rating) are not all listed, because it is not the original purpose of the site, but especially because it is impossible and that we had to put some limits (which are more or less respected). -- Last edit: 2007-12-12 17:56:11 |
