-- Last edit: 2005-11-28 20:16:15 |

Pour l'anecdote, à l'époque, le doublage son du moteur fut emprunté à une TRIUMPH... HERALD ! |

Regrettably the communications within BLMC were such that in stead of using the perfectly reliable V8 engine from Rover, Thriumph spent a lot of money and effort to build their own V8 from two Dolomite engines. Underdeveloped, they ensured that the garages around the world were kept busy. |

RVC 425H used in Professionals: /vehicle_94383-Triumph-Stag-1970.html?PHPSESSID=7a3... RVC 435H exported, it seems: Link to "www.invaluable.com" All have _VC plates from Coventry, so Triumph press cars. |

Robgeelen2, I'm glad you said that because I always assumed it was the Rover/Buick V-8. Goes to show you what Leyland could do to muck things up. |

If you listne carefully, it has both. When Bond drives away, the exhaust sounds like the V8, but in the next scene when he's heading to the hovercraft, it sounds like the four cylinder. |

Pre-production build number LD14. Eventually went to "The James Bond Museum" (aka "Cars of the Stars") in Keswick (Cumbria) until 2011 when the entire museum collection was bought by Michael Dezer and shipped over to US for display in the Miami Auto Museum. He had a massive sale of Bond cars in early 2014, including the Stag, and unclear where RVC 435H went afterwards. The comments above about sounding like a 4 cylinder have been noticed elsewhere and are explained on forums as (a) the engine threw a wobbly during filming so they dropped a Dolomite or Herald engine in just to complete the filming or (b) Aston Martin objected that the Stag V8 sounded better than the DBS did in its scene so demanded an overdub. Both ideas sound bizarre, but (b) seems to have more followers in specialist forums. The pre-production Stag sequence of [LDx] cars starts with LD1 - RRW 97H, white - the 1st "off tools" car completed on 14 November 1969 - which was extensively used for brochure and press photos etc, which continued through Stag life with airbrushing etc and plate tweaks to update details for later brochures including 73+ Mk2. LD2 and LD3 still survive outside UK - no info on what UK plates they may have had - and then a big batch with consecutive plates from LD4 (RVC 425H) to LD14 (RVC 435H) plus LD17 (RVC 438H) - late March-mid April 1970, still 2 months before public launch. LD16 and LD 17 do not seem to have been registered with RVC plates - RVC 437H was a Toledo (below). Information from this list of Stag press cars, but some details about what happened later to individual cars are not fully up to date or do not match other accounts - eg 2nd Straw Dogs car has been claimed to be 428H not 425H but there is confusion, and 425H seems to have existed in white, yellow and brown in screen sightings. For the record, the pre-production Toledo/1500 RVC sequence was: - RVC437H [ADG2] Red Toledo DVLA yes last taxed 1979. - RVC447H [ADG3] Saffron Toledo DVLA No - RVC449H [ADG5] White Toledo DVLA yes last taxed 1983 Fitted tow bar - RVC450H [ADG10] Blue Toledo DVLA yes last taxed 1985 - RVC454H [WB4] White 1500 DVLA no Fitted tow bar - RVC457H Green 1500 DVLA yes last taxed 1984 - RVC458H [WB8] Blue 1500 DVLA no - RVC460H Blue 1500 DVLA Yes last taxed 1982 - RVC461H [WB12] Grey 1500 DVLA no. All public sale Toledo/1500 should have J plates from August 70 launch, so all H are pre-production/pilot builds. -- Last edit: 2014-12-01 19:58:29 |

It's also not particularly useful to host the small jpgs (of a plate that we can see on the image) on the in-site image host. Would be best to use an external site as the site one is for extra views or important reference pics. |
