Are you sure it's a GNX? It could be a regular Grand National and it might not be a 1987. |

Well, between this picture, and another picture this car is in the background of, the wheels look more like they're from a GNX |

It's a regular 1987 Grand National with GNX wheels (or Trans-Am GTA wheels, they are very similar) |

The GNX also has vents in the front fenders, above and just a little behind the top of the wheel well. Too bad we cant see that area in the pic. The shop owner refers to the car as a GNX, but its not, Its a Grand National, w/ GNX type wheels. -- Last edit: 2007-01-06 19:00:18 |

Just to clear things up... A little GNX history.. The GNX was a car to end all Grand Nationals.. It was produced in the last production year of the Buick Grand National production line (1987). All GNX's started out as a regular Grand National and were sent to ASC/Mclaren to be upgraded. There were only 547 GNX's made and are currently being sold for $60,000 to $110,000 because of their limited production. The externally recognizable GNX upgrades are as follows: - GNX emblems (markings). - Louvers on each side of the front quarter panels above the wheels. - Wheel flares to widen the stance. - Larger Gaterback Tires. - 16 inch aluminum alloy wheels with Goodyear Eagle VR "Gatorback" radial tires (245/50VR-16 front & 255/50VR-16 rear). Other upgrades include: - Better Turbo with ceramic/aluminum (CERMATEL) turbine and contaminant trap. This helped with spool-up and added around 20HP. - Rear-end modes included Ladder bar and Panhard bar instead of the original upper and lower control arm setup. - A upgraded instrumentation package from Stewart Warner. - High efficiency intercooler. - Recalibrated ECU computer PROM. - Auxiliary transmission cooler. So The only obvious way to tell is if it has Louvers, Wheel Flares, GNX only emblems and larger gaterback tires then it still only might a GNX because this look can be copied with aftermarket items. If the movie car misses out on any of these recognizable key items then it's defiantly only a GN and not a GNX. D |

I love that car. It's too bad that the driver got his right leg blown off. Will he be able to drive it again if he puts hand controls in it? -- Last edit: 2015-02-07 06:37:11 |
