modell ◊ 2007-01-29 04:37	This car belongs to Shaun's stepdad. They are forced to take this car because Ed "accidentally" smashed the red Renault. Ed drives this car quite aggresively since he loves this Jag. When he first sees it, he says "I didn't know your mum had a Jag. Fuck, it's gorgeous." He slams on the brakes whenever he comes to a stop, makes sharp turns and plays rap music very loudly. He almost hits a couple cars and then spins to a halt.

paulo72mgbgt ◊ 2007-06-08 21:24	Yep film companies tart up some real wrecks for filming, whether the car is going to be destroyed or not - for example the 'Life On Mars' Cortina looked a really good example on TV but actually it was a bit of a rust-bucket, and needs considerable restoration work. In this case they clearly bought a knackered Jag on the cheap and resprayed it so it looks in good condition - a coat of paint works wonders! When I saw this film originally, I could never understand why Bill Nighy's character was so protective of this car, as it's obviously a well-used, 20 year old Jag!
G-MANN ◊ 2007-09-11 12:46	Because it's still a Jaguar, it may not look like much now (although in the film it still looked like it was good condition) but it was a proper luxury car in it's day, people can get attached to cars. Just because it wasn't worth very much money anymore doesn't mean it wasn't worth a lot to him. Also Bill Nighy plays a fussy old fart, someone who'd get really annoyed if you accidentally stepped on one of his flowers or something, so his protectiveness of his old car was part of his character, which also made it funny when Ed gets behind the wheel and starts tearing up the road in it. Shaun of the Dead was a fairly low budget film (roughly $4 million, it's a British film after all), they could have gotten a newer Jag but maybe this is all they were willing to spend. -- Last edit: 2008-03-11 16:58:35

G-MANN ◊ 2008-03-07 13:45	Originally the Jaguar was going to crash into a wall and burst into flames/explode with the zombie Philip (Bill Nighy) inside. It was once of the first things to be cut from the original storyline. To film the interior shots when Ed spins the car, they mounted it onto a turntable (with camera and lights strapped to it) and spun it around with the actors (7 of them) inside. You can see this on the Behind the Scenes footage on the DVD.

Voyska ◊ 2008-06-07 02:24	When Shaun returns from the apartment, the Jag pulls up with steam briefly pouring out of the grill. I say this car has been driven hard in the past! Old Jags overheat easily if under real hard continuous use.

lovejoysdatsun ◊ 2009-07-08 02:44	the jag is now dead. the story goes like this: a few years ago I went to my friends who does banger racing and he had a jag silver but resprayed green, i said that it looked to good to race thats when he told me he got it from london and it was used in a film, he couldn't remember what it was called. he also said it had some of the scripts in the boot but he had put them on the fire and burnt them along with the interior thinking they wasn't worth anything. that was before the film was even in the cinema, then i saw the film and realised thats where the jag was used.

I've wondered if the plate it wears in the film might have come from another Jag (often in recent films car don't have their real plates).
