The 1986-1988 models had larger (taller) tail-lights which came right down to the bumper: https://s1.cdn.autoevolution.com/images/gallery/ACURALegend-1252_3.jpg The 1989 models had slimmer tail-lights, with a body-colour segment between the lights and bumper, as seen above.
