Fangio had the ride of his life in such a 250F on the Nurburgring in 1957. He caught up Hawthorn and Collins who were unaware that the "old man" was still in the race! The 2 Britons were exchanging signs and smiling at each other when suddenly Fangio's Maserati was close again. When Fangio passed Collins he drove on the kerb, sending stones and other debris in Collin's face who broke a glass on his goggles! Fangio declared after the race he drove over his limit, a feat he would never do again.

I would say 1957... But it's not so important.

1957 and 1958 the cars were identical. This restoration suggests a car driven by Fangio (in either season) due to the yellow stripe at the nose.
