I don't know if it's the 'Austin Cooper' or the 'BMC Mini' of the entrant list. |

BMC were very precise on how they badged the works Minis to share the glory equally between Austin and Morris to keep both sets of dealers happy - still separate networks in 1966 (although may have started some merging by then???). 66 Monte cars were all badged as Morris and finished 1-2-3 before the infamous blot on France's history which can never be forgotten or forgiven when the 3 Minis and the 4th place Lotus Cortina were disqualified so that the 5th place DS21 of Pauli Toivonen became the "winner". The grounds for disqualification were the alleged use of the wrong type of light bulb. Unfortunately for any semblance of credibility the DS21 was also fitted with the same bulb. Toivonen refused to accept his "winners" award at the prizegiving and immediately walked out of the Citroen team in protest at this institutional cheating and vowed never to drive for Citroen again, and he never did. The 4 works cars were - GRX 555D, #2, Makinen/Easter, 1st - GRX 55D, #242, Aaltonen/Ambrose, 2nd - GRX 5D, #230, Hopkirk/Liddon, 3rd - GRX 195D, #87, Baxter/Scott - finished 24th, but disqualified with the others for not being French The plate in this photo looks GRX 5D. -- Last edit: 2014-10-03 19:45:20 |

Oh, hein, ça va, hein, ils ont triché, ils ont triché, et puis c'est tout ! (Naaa… I loved these little monsters. But why recall this shameful story to me just after I had to, well… to painfully and unbelievingly watch this crap of a movie?) |
