Plus "When Ford introduced the Explorer to the UK in 1997 ..." from here and heading "Ford Explorer (1997–2001) here. And if you can't trust The Times and Honest John to get their facts right, we might as well all just give up and spend our lives drinking white cider. But that leaves open the question of apparently earlier UK RHD examples as your link - several seem to be imports from Japan as a dealer batch; Australia and maybe NZ and ZA are other possible RHD sources.
