Not a Hawk, but a 1955 coupe. It carries Regal trim but cannot determine for certain Champion vs Commander from this distance. (Not a President as it appears not to have front fender top ornaments which were standard on Presidents while only optional on other models.) Because I cannot specifically see a rear fender nameplate I will list as Champion but since the photo is blurry and the car is a light color, one could be there. -- Last edit: 2014-09-03 16:19:26 |

Location is in front of Canoga Park High School, 6850 Topanga Canyon Blvd. The building was damaged in the 1971 earthquake and torn down. |

The 1956 Ford Ranch wagon tail lights had larger fluted silver colored centers. My father owned a red one that was a real beauty! Back in the 60's, I worked at a service station and we could pretty reliably tell a cars model year by a two digit date molded into the tail lamp and or the parking lamp. Car in the photo looks to be a 1955. It has the smaller round cylindrical centers. -- Last edit: 2016-09-02 03:13:14 |

Without the trim on the top of the front fenders that 1955 Studebaker should be a Regal. Could be either a 6 or V-8. |

Since we are listing it as a Champion per the reasons given above, it has to be a 6. All Champions carried 6-cylinder engines. As far as front fender top ornaments are concerned, they were standard on President State and Speedster models but optional on Champions, Commanders and President Deluxe models. The subject car is a Regal-trimmed model because of the side spear pattern. Those tail lamp "date stamps" can only be relied on for one-year only tail lamp lenses. If the lenses were carried over to a subsequent year (admittedly not common in the 1950's) they would bear the same numbers. -- Last edit: 2016-09-06 02:24:18 |
