Plate NVK issued in 1996. Other plates in the NVK2-- series return Fords registered in either March/April 1996. Appears to be product placement. In the first season, we also see a 1996 Taurus, Explorer, and Festiva. @dhill_cb7 - our Ford Probes always had painted mirrors. See here: https://www.justcars.com.au/cars-for-sale/1994-ford-probe-st/JFFD3680279 Interesting fact - the Probe cost $45,450 back in 1994 when it first went on sale, which is more than the 2016 Mustang cost when it arrived in Australia!! (the 2.3L Ecoboost model was priced from $44,990) -The Probe went on sale July 2, 1994, and was the first RHD Ford exported to Australia from the USA in over 85 years -Newspapers at the time expected the starting price to be much lower (they estimated $33,000) -Ford estimated sales to be 100 per month. This never happened - in it's best sales year, only 65 were sold per month -Only 2000 Probes were sold in Australia in total, making it very rare. The street in the photo is Acland St, a very well known trendy street in St. Kilda, a beachside suburb of Melbourne. Back in the 90s, you would always see the fancy sports cars on that street. Note that the KFC in the background is long gone - it closed down around 2000-ish. Though in 2018, a new KFC has opened up around the corner. -- Last edit: 2020-06-01 20:59:31 |
