In the USA it's called an Eagle Premier. Looks like an ES. First year for these was 1988 although some of the early 1988's were badged as a Renault.

Actually I remember reading it was based on the Renault 21. Sold as the AMC Medallion/Eagle Premier/Dodge Monaco.

According to Wikipedia, Although it used the drivetrain from the Renault 25 (V6 engine models) and the suspension components from the Renault 21, the body and floorpan structure were unique.
But due to that similar style between the Renault 25 and the Eagle Premier for doors & C-pillar I thought that it was just a bigger sedan version of the Renault 25 hatchback.
I am not sure that this info on Wikipedia is accurate, though.

The Allpar article on the car offers this. As far as I can tell, the Premier (and Monaco twin) were only codesigned by Renault and AMC, although the engine is Renault's. However, Eagle also offered the Medallion, which was a Renault 21.

The design looks identical to me, save for the longer rear end boot in place of the liftback.

I want one of these so badly... Are they rare?

Based on numbers from Allpar, the production list looked like this:

1988 - 45,546
1989 - 41,349
1990 - 14,243
1991 - 11,634
1992 - 4,730

Totaled up, that's 117,502 over 5 model years, and annual average is about 23,500.

The car's Dodge equivalent, the Monaco, sold just 21,549 units over 3 model years, for an annual average of 7,183.

So, all in all, 139,051 between the two models.

In the RiffTrax of this movie, Kevin mistakes this for a Toyota Cressida.

This is an LX model, not an ES. The rims were for the LX model.
