It's a Galaxie or even a Custom 500. It was made to look old in the series when actually it was a fairly new vehicle.
It had to be a beater, because Hutch wasn't supposed to like cars as opposed to Starsky in his shiny red Torino.
All vehicles again furnished by FoMoCo.

..In a UK TV show ..david Soul had said that this was a better car than the Gran Torino.!
(maybe even faster.?)

These full-size Fords were most commonly referred to as just "Ford" in period literature. The Ford was the top of the line full-size. The Torino was an "intermediate" Big Fords were most of the time more carefully assembled.
Both cars were huge, and when parked alongside both appear just as big. If the Torino was powered by the 351 2v and the "Ford" by a 460 big block I can imagine David Soul's claim of his car being faster. He wasn't supposed to like cars in the series.

The car "double" taking the dive off the mountain side is a 1970 Ford Custom

The car rolling down the hill is a Custom. The other car in the front shots appear to me to be 74 LTD, which in the other photo's had larger integrated tail lamps. The LTD's were Cop cars used in my home town.

Hutches personal and unmarked police car is actually a beat up beige cream colored 1973 Ford Galaxie 500 with mix matched parts. The car would eventually blow up on the fourth season episode Targets Without A Badge.
