I was going by the number plate (Y reg is 2001). Unfortunately, there isn't a full view of the plate to be able to do a check. It may be it was registered after production of this model ended. |

It is the Mk2 I guess. The Mk3 was launched in oct.2000, so I guess that this one was part of the last model, and only registered few months later (as a taxi, maybe it got it cheaper because it was an "old" model). But I thought that UK plates were depending on the year of the car rather than the year of registration?  |

What is the problem with the plate btw? To an extent, yes, however, there are occasions where a car has been registered long after it's gone out of production. For instance, I have seen a Ford Escort, which finished production in 2000, registered on a plate issued in 2002/03. |

yes but when we list the year of a car dont we put the year when it was launched ? |

If we have the real year of the model we use that one. In this case it is rather 2000 than 1997. But I agree that even if it is registered as 2001 it is probably not. |

well..i think its more logical to put the model year rather than the numberplate year. |

But if it is a Mondeo made in 2000, why would we list it as a 1997 one? There are maybe small changes between the two. |
