Wikipedia gives 1967 for the 280 SE (and 1968 for the 280 SEL) |

@antp: If so, Wikipedia is wrong. Or to be more correct, very vague. The 280 SE and the similar looking 280 S (two carburettors instead of mechanical fuel injection), was made as pre-production and evaluation from November 1967, but was introduced to the public in January 1968. But also the pre-production run was intended as of MY 1968. The 280 SEL was in fact a slightly longer 280 SE, and thus didn't need as much evaluation as the base model. Hence both the pre-production run and the introduction to the public was made during January 1968. The 280 SEL was very rare in Europe as almost the entire production went to the U.S. About this specific one: - Grille with four division stripes between each chrome stripe indeed points towards 1968+. - Those head rests, on the other hand, points even further to 1970+. - No chrome on the A-pillar, and on the door frames, argues this is a not a {W 109] 300 SEL of some sort. Conclusion: This is either a, 1970-72, 280 S or a 280 SE, where the 280 S was slightly more common (93.666 made compare with 91.051). Both [W 108]. |
