◊ 2004-12-02 00:46 |
Yes. It is a Mercedes-Benz SSK. |

Je précise open tourer car c'est une décapotable |
◊ 2006-08-07 17:39 |
Most definitely yes. I don't think they used a real SSK. |

this car is involved in what has to be the funniest scene in all movie history |

Whatever it is, it cannot be a replica of a Mercedes-Benz SSK... SSK means Super Sport Kurz (SWB super sportscar), built around 1928, and this thing is not a sportscar or a racer. Looks more like an interpretation of the luxurious nazi-cars from mid thirties (not only because of those flags). Btw the swastika as a hood ornament was a rather often seen extra in the early twenties, with no political meaning yet. In one of my books there is an advert with several aftermarket hood ornaments, including such a symbol. |

Maybe we should just list it as "Made for Movie" then. |
◊ 2007-05-10 01:14 |
Yes, definitely. I wouldn't even use 'Replica' in the name, as it is not more than a vague idea of a Mercedes-Benz 770, which it probably tries to impersonate. Here are the real ones: W07(K), 1930-38 W150, 1938-43 I assume that the base vehicle used for this modification is of US origin. Perhaps someone can identify the details, like wings, doors, windshield frame, lamp-bar, etc. |

BTW, this is a Mercedes-Benz SSK: |
CarKid ◊ 2008-02-19 23:38 |
I agree. But why is it listed as a clone. |
◊ 2008-02-19 23:40 |
Finally you make a useful comment! I've fixed it now. |
◊ 2008-02-20 13:44 |
Still, it cannot be 'SSK', and as Alexander said, it can hardly be called a replica... |
◊ 2008-02-20 13:56 |
You mean it's a totally fictional Mercedes that doesn't resemble any particular model? In that case "Made For Movie Mercedes-Benz" is enough. |
◊ 2008-02-20 16:05 |
That's what Alexander suggested: inspired from Mercedes models, but nothing in particular. |
◊ 2008-02-20 16:36 |
Well, that grille is not very authentic. |
◊ 2008-03-08 15:11 |
This is something Daimler-Benz, later Mercedes-Benz. |
◊ 2008-05-19 07:20 |
Are you INSANE? This is Hitler's car! |
◊ 2009-03-28 22:06 |
Well, thanks to this picture I now notice that it is way shorter than a Nazi-era Mercedes. Looks like the size of a 30's Chevrolet or Ford, though. -- Last edit: 2009-03-28 22:07:42 |

I think this was ment to be a Mercedes-Benz 770K. |
◊ 2010-05-21 23:25 |
Despite the modifications, I think it's a 1934 Lincoln K; they had a lot of custom bodies so it's hard to tell from a Google Image search. The texture and shape of the grille looks right if you ignore the big chrome surround on it. Any other ideas? |

Identical one is referred to as 1933 Mercedes Benz Replica http://www.motorbase.com/picture/by-id/70195774 so should we list it as that? |
tom11 ◊ 2011-12-17 00:37 |
UPDATE it is indeed a replica of a Mercedes Benz 770 based on a 1936 Lincoln Hardtop Sedan http://moviemike.com/mm_credits.htm |

The irony, huh? A jewish family in a car like this! And a Ford turned in to a nazi car(Henry Ford, of course being an outspoken anti-semite) -- Last edit: 2013-02-03 14:46:02 |

Ford Germany has produced trucks and cars for military purposes all along the WWII - and the license fees to Ford USA were still paid then. |

Going up for auction in August: Link to "www.auctionsamerica.com" Note it's listed as a '35, not a '36. Some good detail photos on the site. Edit: SOLD for $15,400. -- Last edit: 2013-10-10 21:45:50 |

It's a 1935 K Lincoln the with swept back fenders the 1936 had pontoon fenders. |
◊ 2018-04-05 16:03 |
Fortunately, by now this movie is all but forgotten. |
◊ 2018-07-09 17:54 |
If its a Mercedes why is it Listed as a Lincoln? |
◊ 2018-07-09 18:05 |
Didnt have Political meaning, but it was a HUGE and Long Time Religious Symbol |
◊ 2018-07-09 18:10 |
Because it's a Lincoln modified as a Mercedes? -- Last edit: 2018-07-09 18:10:53 |
