1949 Ford Super DeLuxe Club Convertible Coupe. |

Sorry, my mistake. Not "Super DeLuxe", that name does not exist anymore in 1949, but "Custom" It's a 1949 Ford Custom Convertible Coupe of course. |

custom or custom de luxe? |
◊ 2006-11-19 23:11 |
"Custom" only. The "Custom DeLuxe" appeared in 1950. |

ok btw, should we rename all the "De Luxe" to "DeLuxe" ?? which form is correct? |

Well, for my part, I've always seen DeLuxe written that way when referring to Ford cars. |

Kinda interesting seeing this car here because I've driven it many times, even washed it. It now belongs to Bob Drake whos company makes reproduction early Ford and hot rod parts in Grants Pass, Oregon. He bought the car from Universal Studios in the late 1960s for a few hundred bucks. It was one of James Dean's favorite cars to drive during meal breaks from working at the studio, as he didn't like leaving his Porsche Spider parked outside the diner. Man, I wish I had concerns like that! |

Looks like they used only Convertible or the longer Convertible Club Coupe in their 1949 sales brochures - not Convertible Coupe as listed? |

A more recent picture of the car is on Bob Drake's website, which I can't directly link because IMCDB's format screws up the URL. Looks like some minor wear, and the headlight "eyelids" and fender skirts are gone. -- Last edit: 2020-09-24 18:08:02 |
