Hmm...  I need to research this. I thought the catalytic converter came out on 1976 model year. Some import still runs with leaded gas as late as 1979. I drove a rental 1979 Subuaru that allows to use leaded gas while I had my 1972 SAAB 99E being serviced. |

Re to tore-40: My parent did owned the 1977 SAAB 99GL that still runs on leaded gas as well. |

I have read somewhere that Californian laws required cat's MY1975, while the rest of the US followed shortly after. This is filmed in The Golden State. Off-topic: In California today, a replacement catalytic converter will have to meet with the OBDII standards, even for an older (back to 1975) model Edit: This 1975 brochure http://www.thesamba.com/vw/archives/lit/75beetle/back.jpg shows Californian versions were made to run on un-leaded fuel, guess why... -- Last edit: 2014-02-18 18:32:30 |
