Well, you may get your wish someday as trends in SUVs’ change over time. The (full-size) two-door SUV might be dead, but it’s not forgotten. (At least not by GM)… General Motors has hinted that they have been entertaining the thought for a while now. There were lots of upset GM fans when General Motors announced that 1991 would be the last model year for the 1973 through 1991 (full-size) Chevrolet K5 Blazers’ with removable tops.

As of now the (full-size) four-door SUV is the most popular vehicle when compared to their (Compact) two-door SUV counterparts like the Jeep Wrangler… However, as gas prices and other reasons play factors’ in the sales of SUVs’ over time the two-door (full-size) SUV may make a comeback…

Ford has already revealed it’s two-door (full-size) Bronco Concept SUV to the public
and it received welcome reviews, and four wheel drive enthusiasts are praying that Ford clears it for production.

As for General Motors, they too have played around with bringing the K5 back. Rumors have circulated for quite some time now that some of General Motors’s design teams have a (full-size) two-door SUV on the backburners until the time is right.

This is the Chevrolet K5 Concept (full-size) two-door SUV / It uses a second row entry
style doors to enter and exit, like the doors found on extended cab pickups…

A spy photo of this vehicle was taken before the release of the GMT-800 SUVs’. It is
believed to be a prototype of the Chevrolet Tahoe, however a two-door version of the GMT-800 SUVs’ was never produced. Nevertheless, it proves General Motors has not forgotten it’s (full-size) two-door SUVs’ it once created.

If Ford clears it’s (full-size) Ford Bronco Concept for production, this action may prompt General Motors to produce a K5 Concept like vehicle. Furthermore, if that happens; Look for Dodge to do the same as this would become a (Follow-the-leader) type of scenario.

I too have a soft spot for the 1973 through 1991 Chevy K5s’ and wouldn’t mind at all
if General Motors brought them back.

While room is a factor, the ease of getting in and out of a four-door SUV is what killed the (full-size) two-door SUVs’, but as I said above, it is extremely plausible for the (full-size) two door Sport Utilities’ to make a comeback. There are a few two-door SUVs’ on the market already (like the Toyota fJ Cruiser and Honda Element) that pose a threat to their four-door counterparts because they solve the second row entry problem by implementing the use of rear half doors like the Chevrolet K5 (full-size) SUV Concept vehicle above.

In a way, I wish my Land Cruiser was just a two-door, because I really don’t need the second row of entry doors… ;)
