I think its a Ford. For one thing, the Ford had a wider grille.It doesnt look like there is the metal divider here between the headlights and grille, like Mercurys had. The taillights were also wraparound.Here, where the taillight would be, its a metal strip painted the same color as the roof pillar.
Also, it would likely be a US-military import. Mercurys were a little more luxurious since it was a slightly more upscale brand. Ford's would have been the more probable car shipped to military bases overseas.
