didn't the 260's have bigger bumpers. i'm not sure about the difference between the 260's and early 280's.

I thought 280s had plastic or rubber bumpers.

Can this be a 240? I thought the 240's had plastic headlight covers over the whole headlight well.

plastic covers? it might have been an option but wasn't included on all 240s. the short metal bumpers is what gives this away as a 240. because of crash standard laws they then made the 260s with the bigger bumpers.

240z cars had a hood the stopped short of the steel front bumper. On later Z cars the hood extended all the way to the plastic front bumper.
I think 1983 was the last year for the "round eye" Z cars, the other Z cars had pop-up headlamps or intigrated head lamps. I drive a 1983 280zx
with a total hard top which seems interesting to me since most Z cars from that era had either T-tops or sun roofs.

All S30s (1970 to 1978) had the same hood line, and NONE had the hood flow to the bumper.

You may be thinking of the G-nose equipped S30s, where the nose blocked off the area above the bumper and back to the leading edge of the hood.

The 260Z was made for only imported for one year here in the states and it had one major design change during that year. Because of the impact crash law change in the states for 1974 (The only year of the 260z) The first 3 or 4 thousand 260Z's all had small bumpers like the 240z's. Six Shooter is right, the hoods and headlight are all the same from 1969- 1978. The only way to tell if this is is 240Z or a 260Z is to see the tail lights. The backup light in a 260Z is not in the tail light cluster like it is in a 240Z.
