I strongly believe this is a GMC COE (Cab Over Engine) from around 1937 until mid 40's. (And not Chevrolet)

Here're some links http://www.flickr.com/photos/mr38/9407253473/in/pool-coetrucks , http://www.autogallery.org.ru/k/g/45ili44gmcAFR522_Nr3088618_RobertOeleis.jpg and http://centralvermont.com/restorations/42gmc/42GMCcoePRN.htm .

Either this has to be marked as "known" or all the others /vehicles.php?make=GMC&model=COE&modelMatch=1&modelInclModel=on have to be marked "unknown".

GMC grille indeed (thick horizontal bars without the vertical separation). GMC used that cab from 1937 to 1948, but this grille shape starting in 1939 only: this truck is therefore an AF-Series:

Headlight location plus minor grille and hood details indicate this is a 1939-1945 GMC (Big cab - not like a Chevrolet or light GMC), model AF-xxx (Exact series number unknown without being able to see more.). 1944 through early '49 are similar, but not the same.
