2006-11-13 19:48 | That is a pretty recent car on a srapyard... |
2006-11-13 19:57 | Perhaps it was in a crash. |
2007-12-01 00:39 | In the UK there are lots of vehicles that are less than 10 years old in scrapyards. It's absolutely ludicrous. There are lots of cars without even a spot of rust going to waste. |
2007-12-01 02:39 | Today the owner has to pay to have a car crushed, I can't imagine too many people would do that with a car that is still in working order instead of selling them. They'd get more money back trading it into a garage then to a scrap dealer. At the scrapyards I've been to, recent cars there were all insurance write-offs. |
2007-12-01 12:14 | In France you were getting money when you were sending an old working car to the scrapyard and buying a new one instead. That's how all the 70s cars disappeared in 1994/1996. They plan to redo that, from what I heard. It is presented as an ecological action, but it is actually only financial. It is more polluting to produce new cars to replace old working ones rather than continue to use the old ones until they are really "used", even if the new ones pollute less (especially since the "pollution" is more CO2 than other things). -- Last edit: 2007-12-01 12:16:31 |
