Why didn't this car sell well ? Was it too expensive or too ugly ? (though i like the looks)

In Finland it was too expensive I think. Last time I checked only three cars were registered :(

I think also the Finnish climate would not do any good to this car...

Because it was too Peugeot to be sold by Renault, powered by the same engine as Peugeot 104 (and later Visa, 205)and because of a catastrophic advert campaign "La Poire", the pear. "Une bonne poire", "a good pear" is in french someone so kind with everybody that he is a bit stupid...

Finnish climate is harsh for French cars but my father has a 1986 Renault 25 and he says it's one of the best cars ever made (he has owned over 40 cars, also many German cars). Extremely reliable car and goes like a train in rough roads.

Any climate on this planet was hostile for these cars. They immediately started reacting with the oxygen in the atmosphere the moment they rolled off the assembly line. You even had to hold the sales brochures level in order to prevent rust from crumbling onto the carpet. Pitty actually, since despite common believe they were darn good cars otherwise.

Archi-faux. Avec le climat humide de la Finlande, elle se bio-dégradait remarquablement plus vite encore!

Old topic but where can you check that?

Finnish Renault club website lists all Renault models registered in Finland.

http://www.dlc.fi/~renault/tilasto.htm

One thing to note though; the data is compiled on the last day of the year. This means many older cars are not registered at that time because it's winter. According to the data there were no R14 registered on the day of 31.12.2009. In reality there are few R14's in roadworthy condition. I know one very nice example in Helsinki.
