Draft control is maintaining the correct depth of cut on uneven ground so the height of the implement is automatically regulated. This was firstly done with extra wheels on the implement (plough etc.) but later hydraulics were used and Ferguson developed a system where the drawbar load was used to regulate draft control. Ferguson developed a prototype tractor and set up a sales outfit but David Brown was the first manufacturer in 1936 to make Ferguson tractors. In 1937, the sales company, Harry Ferguson Limited, merged with David Brown Tractors to become Ferguson Brown Ltd. -- Last edit: 2006-11-06 19:04:31 |
