The correct name of this car is MP Lafer. It was a replica to MG TD with brazilian VW 1.6 rear mounted engine. There were many makers at that time and Lafer was a furniture manufacturer that entered the special car market with good results. In the nineties, with importation opening all these makers closed the doors. |

Furhter comment Behind the MP Lafer there is a Chevrolet Opala 78-79, brazilian production based on Opel Rekord from 66. This car remained in production - both 2-door and 4-door - with several improvements until 92. The engines could be or a 4 cyl, 2500cc, 90 HP, or a 6 cyl, 3800-4100 cc, 150 HP. The last one could be very dangerous. You may see a Dodge D-400, rescue truck, also produced here. this truck share a 5,200 cc V-8 engine with Dodge Dart and it was the most powerful car of the seventies sold in our home market. |
