Early-1950's Chevrolet 4400 or 6400. And this should be classified as a tow truck. |

1955-1957 Chevrolet 4400. 6400 is bigger. |

This can't be a '55-57, though. It still has the "Advanced Design" body. The ones between 1955 and 1959 were "Task Force" type trucks. |

Seems to have the 1951+ vent window, indeed. But: In fact, 4400 trucks and 6400 were exactly the same size: ![]() This one seems too short to be a 137" wheelbase 4100/6100 model, so the only remaining option for the Advance-Design trucks line is indeed the 161" long wb 4400/6400 vehicle. Most of the tow trucks seemed to have been made on 6XXX (2-ton) models, but does anyone know how to differentiate a 161" wb 1½-ton 4400 truck from a 161" wb 2-ton 6400? Cf. the ad above ![]() As 4100-6400 models were "heavy-duty trucks" for the Advance-Design models: ⇒ 1951 Chevrolet Advance-Design Heavy-duty? -- Last edit: 2015-02-26 13:04:57 |
