In all fairness, at the time they filmed this episode the Mustang II was brand new (this one was anyway), so it's not like they were destroying an old classic car. They were trashing a new one. Even if the episode was a later one the car was still from the same decade the show was made in, and thus in ready supply. -- Last edit: 2009-09-16 11:44:51

Also, the grille in '74 was sunken back into the opening, while for '75, it was moved out nearly flush with the housing. It is a 1975 (or possibly an early '76.
