Oh man, come on. Why 1991? Why 230 G? Just because the one under the link is one? The 230G was cancelled in 1982 and the open top W460 was never called Cabriolet but 'Offener Wagen' for civilian versions.

Okay, so it isn't a 230 G. But why 1979 specifically?

The W460 was produced since 1979 until 1991 without particular changes outside (just interior and motor such as additional available wider wheel boxes since 1982). So if we don't have the real name of it, there's no closer MY for this version.

Then it could very well be a '91. I assume Mattel had access to behind the scenes material when making the casting. Though it's also possible the '91 G-Class casting was not actually made to represent this movie vehicle but debuted in the Fast & Furious line under the basis of "close enough."

without visual change or plate listing we go by the 1st possible model year

It is really difficult to keep the W460 and very early and cheaper W461 always apart. But since the casting isn't the car from the movie (2007 W463 rear lights, W463-ish spare wheel, white side indicators, no filler cap at rear, black and somehow wider wheelarches) and W460 were actually more common I stick to the first possible MY and model...
