The annual County Show, held in Kirkwall on the 2nd Saturday in August. Could be the same as this one at Stromness pier?? Probably the normal local bus service - too windy (seriously!) for double deckers. -- Last edit: 2013-06-22 17:12:38 |

I'll take a real flyer on this, based on the closeness of the front wheel to the front of the coach, and say Bedford SBG, but maybe it's a Commer Avenger. Further, I'll take another flyer on the coachbuilder and say Churchill's of Norwich, the shape of the rear window in the quayside shot favours this, but there are some differences and it's not an exact science. I doubt if these can make much difference .... |

If the garter device on the side of this coach contains the letter N or RN or JN, the I think the coach is: BS 3177 Commer Avenger Mk1 Plaxton C32F new in 1949 to Robert then John Nicholson, Kirkwall (1) 09/63 to JD Peace 08/67 w/d |

for info. Changed to Commer as it also matches jfs's alternative suggestion. Although a 1957 film, it uses a lot of footage taken in 1950 and my hunch is that both the Stromness sequences and County Show footage were 1950, so this was fairly new for filming. |
