He is also waiting for Jesse to turn up and assist him with the hijack and kidnap. Surprisingly, the Lawyer has an enterage of employees/bodyguards who lead and follow him in two other cars. At first glance it appears that Derek is high up in the hills on a deserted part of the road, but as the cars pass, we can see that there are houses along that road, around the bend. The Cadillac Escalade in this picture is the vehicle in the middle and therefore obviously is the lawyer's car.
