This page for the black and white one - red rooflight, I think plate is JD 5291. Beige interior, red paint on inside of B-pillar, column gear change, pleated door trim - either a painted-up pretend police car, or the interior shots of rumpy-pumpy moments ("minor action"!?!) is using something else. |

Since this is the 4-door sedan, I would rule out Holden Monaro. I am thinking of Holden Belmont [HQ] |

Monaro was only my quick guess - happy for it to be changed with better info. |

The Monaro was available as a four door from 1973 - http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Holden_Monaro - but they were not commopn in NZ. This car is most likely a Belmont. It may be a genuine Ministry of Transport car which had been sold on. They were usually 253 V8s with column shift 3 speed manual gears. The JD plate on this one will be a replacement - the original would most likely have begun with an F. -- Last edit: 2013-03-19 00:04:04 |

Explanation for tow hook (2nd thumb) - "three Holdens were used during filming, and such was the low budget of the movie that the Holdens – in full police livery – were also used for towing production equipment and caravans as the crew of 24 travelled through NZ" - Link to "www.aronline.co.uk" . |

The vehicle was a marked patrol vehicle for the New Zealand Traffic Safety Service. The Traffic Safety Service was the law enforcement branch of the Ministry of Transport of New Zealand Road Traffic Branch established in 1968 to enforce the road transport law in New Zealand as a separate law enforcement group from the regular police service. The Traffic Safety Service was taken over by the Land Transport Division in 1988 and had absorbed the remaining local traffic enforcement groups for different districts. The Traffic Safety Service was absorbed into the regular New Zealand Police on the 1st July 1992. That and I got the vehicle's registration number, the registration for the vehicle is JD 9231. -- Last edit: 2021-07-31 09:09:06 |
